Folkways Event Planning Intern

Are you enthusiastic about creating memorable experiences, fostering community connections, and contributing to the success of diverse cultural events? Folkways is on the lookout for an energetic and dedicated Event Planning Intern to bring our signature events to life! Join us in bringing joy and connection to our community, mastering the art of event planning, coordination, and execution alongside a passionate team.

Responsibilities:

  • Event Coordination Assistance: Play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of the Red River Market, Night Bazaar, and Christkindlmarkt, ensuring each event is unforgettable.

  • Volunteer Management: Lead our volunteer program, from recruitment and communication to training, creating a welcoming and efficient team.

  • Post-Event Administration: Handle the crucial tasks that wrap up each event, ensuring a smooth transition to the next.

  • Culinary and Educational Programming: Assist in organizing and coordinating cooking demonstrations and activities for the Bite Size Kids Club, enhancing the event experience for all ages.

  • Logistical Execution: Take charge of event set-up and tear-down, ensuring each venue is transformed to meet our vision.

  • Retail and Information Support: Engage with our community face-to-face at our retail and information booths, providing assistance and fostering connections.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for event planning and creating memorable experiences.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a flair for effective email and phone correspondence.

  • An approach to conflict resolution that is proactive, not avoidant.

  • Reliability, friendliness, and a self-motivated attitude.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • An open and inclusive approach to working with diverse groups of people.

  • A willingness and confidence to adapt to various technologies.

Scheduling Expectations:

  • Start Date: June 3, 2024

  • End Date: October 31, 2024

  • Opportunity to start earlier or continue after October 31st

  • Up to 30 hours weekly

Required:

  • 2-3 days in the Folkways office during the week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays required in office 

  • 7 hours on Saturday during market season (8am-3pm)

Event Dates:

  • Red River Market: Saturdays, July 13th - October 26th

  • Night Bazaar: Thursday evenings, June 20nd, July 25th, August 8th, September 19th, October 31st

  • Days off from the market or bazaar can be scheduled and approved in advance

Compensation:

  • Interns will receive an hourly rate of $15/hr for 20-30 hours per week

  • Interns will be required to track work hours

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to be on your feet for up to 4 hours at a time 

  • May have to lift up to 30 lbs at a time
